Monica Agudelo

Monica Agudelo was born in Bogotá, Colombia. From a very young age, she had a strong inclination towards the visual arts, simply enjoying shapes and art in general. She studied Graphic Design at the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University. Before graduating, she was chosen to be part of an interdisciplinary group led by Dr. Rodolfo Llinas, for a research project focused on providing knowledge to children about the Amazon as it was 10,000 years ago. This sparked her interest in Colombian ethnic groups, which still prevail in some of her work, as seen in her exhibition, “Colombia no me Olvides” (Colombia, don’t forget me), aiming to leave a memory of who we are. 

After graduating as a Graphic Designer, she traveled to Europe to explore the great masters of ancient art and study Fine Arts. She gained access to the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, where the teachers were attentive and intrigued by the new techniques and themes the artist proposed. They collaborated with her in creating her first exhibition, held in Paris. The exhibition focused on a study of the human figure, with black and white, tiny characters exuding a strength and an entire inner landscape translated into a few strokes that captivated the audience. Most of her works were sold.

A pioneer of her own style, Monica Agudelo preserves traditional techniques but employs surprising and innovative methods, utilizing photography, digital media, and printing. Her impeccable work deserves mentioning as she might have been one of the first artists with digital influence to enter Colombia with her new methods.
